“The Buck Stops With Me?” — What Did Obama Mean?

President Obama recently said about the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, “The Buck Stops With Me.” President Bush said the same thing about the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that are bankrupting us. What on Earth did Obama and Bush mean when they said that the buck stops with them? They are allegedly saying they take “full responsibility” for the consequences of an oil spill or ongoing wars. What do such statements really mean? What monetary damages do these Presidents suffer from their policies or incompetence? Are they fired from their job? No. Can millions of Americans whose lives or livelihood suffer from the actions or incompetence of our Presidents, file a class-action suit against them and sue them for millions of dollars in damages? No. Are criminal charges filed against them? No.
Louisiana fishermen and many other groups have already filed multi-million dollar lawsuits against British Petroleum for the harm the oil spill is doing to their lives and livelihood. BP will will be held fully accountable in our courts, as they should be, and they will be be paying multi-millions of dollars in damages and clean-up costs.
But politicians who claim they take “full responsibility” or “the buck stops here” for an oil spill or ongoing wars, just mouth empty, meaningless words. What we need is a way for American citizens to quickly fire or sue Presidents, state Governors, Senators, or government bureaucrats, just like stockholders can fire or sue an incompetent Chairman of a corporation. Otherwise, statements like “The Buck Stops With Me,” are just political posturing.

NJ Governor Christie reveals in this video how the public-sector unions are bankrupting us, with the help of liberal-socialist politicians. Solution: Shut down government-monopoly operation of public-transit systems, public schools, and most other functions that local and state governments now operate. Turn all these functions over to competing free-market businesses. Let fiercely-competitive free-market businesses own and operate “public” transit and all the “public” schools. Get local and state incompetent governments out of the transportation and education business. Then let the former public-sector workers compete for jobs with these businesses, who you can be sure will not be giving these workers the bankrupting benefits and pensions they now get.

Liberals, Socialists, Fascists, And The “Robber Barrons”
Marxist college professors diligently teach their soon-to-be-brainwashed students a bedtime scare-story about the free-market called “the robber barrons,” the allegedly ‘evil’ ones that represent the epitome of ‘true” free-market capitalism in the raw.
Let’s point out a few facts about these alleged “robber-barrons.” The really “bad” robber-barrons were not free-market producers, but instead were in league with, and depended on government contracts and influence to get them special monopoly privileges to destroy their competition. The classic example was the Union Pacific Railroad, and the railroad that created a near-monopoly in California and other western states in the last half of the 19th century.
These corporations bribed Congress to get monopolies for their railroad lines. In league with corrupt state and Federal government regulators, they were able to EXCLUDE other railroads from competing with them. After they got their government-created monopoly set up, they then proceeded to gouge farmers on freight rates, hence gaining the hatred of farmers and small business owners, and earning the name of “robber barrons”.
However, there was a different brand of productive producer who never took a dime of government money, and never tried to exlude competition by using Government regulations and bribing government officials to give them monopolies over their competition. James J. Hill, president of the Great Northern Railroad created a superlative railroad in the northwest states without any corrupting relationship with government regulators. He beat the competition with his competence and by giving farmers and other shippers a superb railroad at fair shipping prices. Moreover, he HAD to give farmers fair-market shipping prices, because he had fierce competition by other railroads. And that is the primary point here.
Most of the “robber-barrons” who earned that reputation were just like today’s corporations that get special privilages from government regulations that help to strangle their competition, which then allows them to gouge consumers with high prices for their products. A classic example are the thousands of local electric and gas utility companies that get monopoly privilages from the cities they operate in.
Let’s talk about one of the so-called “robber-barrons” and his “evil” accomplishments, John D. Rockefeller. Rockefeller, due to his superb efficiency as a businessman and oil producer and refiner, managed to reduce the price of kerosene (used to light lamps at night before we had electric lights), from about $1.50 a gallon to less than 30 cents a gallon by the 1920’s. What Rockefeller accomplished was to give Americans the night back. The vast majority of Americans were now able to afford cheap kerosene to light their lamps at night, so they didn’t have to go to bed in the dark after the sun went down, or depend on candles, or (horror of horrors) whale oil, almost making whales an, hold on to your hat, endangered species.
It seems that besides Rockefeller giving most Americans the ability to read books and stay up to at night with cheap kerosene lighting, he also saved the whales (eco-freaks rejoice!). That’s besides literally creating the oil and refining industry that we have today that employs millions of Americans, lights their houses at the flick of a switch, and drives their cars, refrigerators, and iPods. If this is ‘evil,’ then we desperately need more men like Rockefeller to get us out of the hole that Obama is putting us in.
A more modern example of a true government-created “robber-barron” was the stranglehold monopoly on long-distance telephone service held for over 20 years by AT&T. WHY did they have such a monopoly where they could charge us $1.50 a minute for a long-distance calls? It was because Federal government regulators GAVE them that monopoly by legally forbidding other competitors. The same goes today for the US Post Office. They are a governement-created monopoly on 1st class mail service, and the Federal government has SHUT DOWN the few competitors over the years who tried to create competing first-class delivery service.
So liberal-socialists, who probably love their Blackberry or iPods created by the “evil” capitalists at Microsoft or Apple, unhappily continue to mouth their marxist college professors’ rhetoric, and attack this straw man of the free-market called “robber-barrons,” to ‘prove’ the “evil” of the unfettered free-market. But in fact, they don’t condemn an unfettered capitalism as it could and should be, but the mongrel “mixed” economy, the hybrid monster of government controls and government regulators in league with corrupt corporations who are eager to use government to crush their competition. This mongrel, quasi-socialist/fascist system we now have in America, is NOT free-market capitalism, but simply a half-way house to the final abyss of a socialist/fascist America.
A true free-market would have a constitutional Amendment that created a wall between government and the economy (similar to the separation of Church and State). Congress would be forbidden from making any laws or regulations that gave special monopoly privileges, subsidies, or handouts to any business, corporation, or special-interest group (such as unions). In a true free market, free from all government controls or interference, a business would only succeed because of their competence, and how well they beat their competitors in providing the highest quality and/or lowest-priced products or services for their customers.
Every day, our liberal/socialist/marxist friends benefit from that free-market they so blithly attack. Yet, let them turn on a switch, and they immediately gets light in their rooms. Let them go to a local gas station, and they easily get fuel to drive their cars. WHERE do liberal/socialists think they get these wonderful things that give them their high standard of living? WHO do they think brings them all these marvelous goods and services that makes their lives so easy — why, from the “evil” capitalists who they like to tax to death.
Have our fuzzy liberal/socialists ever seen recent videos of the streets and cars running around Havana today? Cuba looks like a time-warp from the 1950s. Not an ounce of progress, new buildings, new cars, or a better life for its citizens. It’s as if Castro’s socialist “paradise” stopped the clock of human progress in Cuba, as it has. Is this what fuzzy liberal-socialists want for themselves and THEIR children?
Besides going to Cuba to test out the socialized-medicine paradise there, perhaps fuzzy liberal/socialists should travel back in time a few hundred years before we HAD those “evil” free-market capitalists they call “robber barrons.” Let them risk dying at average age 47 instead of the average age of 79 that Americans die today, because the “evil” capitalists at our supermarket chains, pharmaceutical companies, and water-treatment corporations now give us fresh, abundant food, antibiotics, and sanitary drinking water. Let them live in a log cabin they have to light with candles or whale oil at night. Let them have to risk their lives hunting for their food, instead of so conveniently being able to go to their local supermarkets for milk and steaks. Let them ride their cows or horses a hundred miles to town, rather than getting in their shiny cars that take them to their shiny city restaurant in a few minutes.
Liberals like to deny that they are like those bad ’socialists’ we used to have in the Soviet Union or in communist Cuba today, and all liberal-socialists shout that they hate ‘fascists.’ Sorry to burst your bubble, liberals, but there’s very little difference between a liberal, socialist, or a fascist. Liberals, if they ever get around to reading recent history, might discover that the German NAZI party stood for “National SOCIALIST” party of Germany. Yes, horror of horrors, the Nazis were primarily socialists, with a national German twist. They were for complete government control of all industries. So are socialists. They were for heavy, progressive income taxes, the same as socialists and Communists. They claimed that the individual must sacrifice himself to the “Fatherland.” Socialists in Cuba and the Soviet Union claimed that the people must sacrifice themselves to “the people.” That’s simply the same vicious socialist-collectivist notion with a different name.
Both socialists and fascists believe government should either own or totally control the economic activity and political freedom of all its citizens, in effect making them slaves of the state. Socialism and fascism are simply two sides of the same vicious coin, brothers under the skin. They espouse the same philosophy that has been responsible for murdering and torturing over 100 million people in the 20th century (by Hitler, Stalin Mao, Castro, ad nauseum). Yet fuzzy liberal/socialists still desperately cling to their woolly beliefs in the “goodness” of socialism, vs. the “evil” of the free-market that has brought them a standard of living and health care that they couldn’t even dream of in a socialist-fascist ‘paradise’ like Cuba.
Fuzzy liberal-socialists likes to see themselves as a lovers of humanity. They, unlike ‘evil’ capitalists and Republicans, “care” about people. If that’s the case, why would they embrace a philosophy responsible for the murder and torture of over 100 million people in the 20th century, and which continues to murder, torture, and starve to death tens of millions of people in Cuba, soon Venezuala, China, and dozens of other socialist-fascist “paradises” in Africa, Burma, etc., etc.?
Fuzzy socialists claim they want to “help” others, but with WHOSE money? It’s so easy to be “noble” with other people’s money. It’s so easy to “help” others by robbing millions of Americans of their hard-earned money with taxes, to then “redistirbute” (Obama’s marxist term) this stolen money to other looters who keep voting the Obama’s of this world into office.
If fuzzy liberal-socialists want to truly ‘help’ others, why don’t they donate 95% of THEIR personal income and “redistribute” THEIR money to the starving masses of Africa, Cuba, and other socialist/fascist paradises around the world? After all, I’m sure most liberals make far more money than poor people forced to live under a socialist-fascist regime. If liberal-socialists truly want to help humanity, let them PUT THEIR MONEY WHERE THEIR MOUTHS ARE, rather than promoting a vicious socialist system that let’s government looters take the earnings from productive average Americans to “redistribute” to welfare mothers, millions of illegal aliens, and hundreds of other special-interest groups who never earned that handout money?
Most of our well-fed liberal-socialists don’t give away all THEIR money to the poor and downtrodden in Africa or Appalachia, do they? So where is their true love for humanity and those less fortunate than themselves? Or are they simply vicious hypocrites who presume they have the right to spend OTHER people’s money so they can boast that they are lovers of humanity?

Let’s talk for a minute about Marxist college professor’s favorite children’s bedtime scare-story about the free-market — the “robber barrons,” the “evil” ones that represent the epitome of free-market capitalism in the raw. There are several books I can refer fuzzy socialists to that explain the real history of capitalism in this country, but let me just point out a few facts about the “robber-barrons.”
The really “bad” robber-barrons of the late 19th century were the same as the corporations taking handouts and subsidies today. They were in league with, and depended on government contracts and handouts to gain them special monopoly privilages to destroy their competition. The classic example were the the railroads that created a near-monopoly in California and other western states in the last half of the 19th century.
These railroad corporations got Congress to give them monopolies for railroad freight and agricultural product freight. In league with corrupt state and Federal government regulators, they were able to EXCLUDE other railroads from competing with them. After they got their government-created monopolies set up, they then proceeded to gouge farmers on freight rates, hence gaining the hatred of farmers and small business owners, and earning the name of ”robber barrons”.
However, there was a different kind of productive corporation who never took a dime of government money, and never tried to exlude competition by using Government regulations and bribing government officials to give them monopolies over their competition. James J. Hill, president of the Great Northern Railroad created a superlative railroad in the northwest states without any corrupting relationship with government regulators. He beat the competition with his competence and by giving farmers and other shippers a superb railroad with fair shipping prices. Moreover, he HAD to give farmers fair-market shipping prices, because he had fierce competition by other railroads. And that is the primary point here. Fierce free-market competition protects consumers. Government-created monopolies are the true “robber-barrons.”
Let’s talk about another so-called “robber-barron” and his “evil” accomplishments, John D. Rockefeller. Rockefeller, due to his superb efficiency as a businessman and oil producer and refiner, managed to reduce the price of kerosene (used to light lamps at night before we had electric lights), from about $1.50 a gallon to less than 30 cents a gallon by the 1920’s. What Rockefeller accomplished was to give Americans the night back. The vast majority of Americans were now able to afford cheap kerosene to light their lamps at night, so they didn’t have to go to bed in the dark after the sun went down, or depend on candles, or (horror of horrors) whale oil, almost making whales an endangered species.
Gee, it seems that besides Rockefeller giving most Americans the ability to read books at night, work at night indoors, and stay up at night with cheap kerosene fuel, he also saved the whales (eco-freaks rejoice!). That’s really evil. That’s besides literally creating the oil and refining industry that we have today that employs millions of Americans, lights their houses at night, drives their cars, refrigerators, and iPods. Yes, what an evil “robber-barron” he was.
A more modern classic example of a true government-created “robber-barron” was the stranglehold monopoly on long-distance telephone service held by AT&T for over 20 years. WHY did AT&T have a monopoly where they could charge customers $1.50 a minute for long-distance calls, where now, after the AT&T monopoly was broken up, fierce competition has driven down the price of long-distance calls to less than 10 cents a minute? It was because Federal government regulators GAVE them that monopoly by legally forbidding other competitors.
The same goes today for the US Post Office. They are a government-created monopoly on 1st class mail service, and the Federal government has SHUT DOWN the few competitors over the years who tried to create cheaper, more efficient, competing first-class delivery service.
Yet fuzzy socialists out there, who probably every day use their Blackberry or iPods created by the “evil” capitalists at Microsoft or Apple, unhappily continue to mouth their Marxist college professors’ rhetoric, and attack this straw-man of the free-market called “robber-barrons” to prove the “evil” of the unfettered free-market.
But in fact, they condemn not unfettered capitalism as it could and should be, but the mongrel “mixed” socialist economy we have today in America, the hybrid monster of government corruption and government regulators in league with corrupt corporations who are eager for government subsidies, handouts (does the word TARP come to mind?), and “partnerships.”
This mongrel, quasi- socialist/fascist system we now have in America, is NOT free-market capitalism, but simply a half-way house to the final abyss of a socialist/fascist America, an America I don’t think that even fuzzy socialists will like, once we get there.
Fuzzy socialists are always slamming the free-market (meaning economic freedom), yet every day they personally benefit from this free-market they so blithly attack. Let them turn on a light switch, and they immediately get light in their living rooms. Let them go to a local gas station, and they easily get fuel to drive their cars. WHERE do fuzzy socialists think they get these wonderful things that allow them to live with electric lights, rather than by candle light, and have the luxury and freedom of a car driven by gasoline taken from the Arabian desert and brought conveniently to their local gas station?
They get all these marvelous benefits of their easy life from the “evil” capitalists who bring them all these wonderful goods and services. Have fuzzy socialists ever seen videos of the streets, and cars running around Havana today? Cuba looks like a time-warp from the 1950s. Not an ounce of progress, new buildings, new cars, or a better life for its citizens. It’s as if Castro’s socialist “paradise” stopped the clock of human progress in Cuba, as it has. Is THIS what fuzzy Socialists truly want for themselves and THEIR families and children in America?
Besides going to Cuba to test out the socialized-medicine paradise there, perhaps fuzzy socialists should travel back in time a few hundred years before we HAD those “evil” free-market capitalists they call “robber barrons.” Let them risk dying at average age 47 instead of the average age of 79 that Americans die today, because the “evil” capitalists at our supermarket chains, pharmaceutical companies, and water-treatment corporations gave us fresh, abundant food, antibiotics, and sanitary drinking water.
Let them live in a log cabin that they light with candles or whale oil at night. Let them have to risk their lives to hunt for food, instead of so conveniently going to their local supermarkets for milk and bread. Let them ride their cows or horses a hundred miles to town, rather than getting in their shiny cars that take them to their shiny city restaurants in a few minutes.
I went to college many years ago, when our colleges were not so completely filled to the brim with Marxist college professors who kept repeating the scary bedtime story of “robber barrons” and “evil” capitalists. So luckily I managed to get an education without too much socialist propaganda.
In that education, and subsequently, I learned that there’s very little difference between a socialist and a fascist. If fuzzy Socialists ever learned true historical facts, they might find out that the NAZI party stood for “National SOCIALIST” party of Germany. Yes, horror of horrors, the Nazis were primarily socialists, with a national German twist. They were for complete government control of all industries. So are socialists. They were for heavy, progressive income taxes, the same as socialists and Communists. They claimed that the individual must sacrifice himself to the “Fatherland”. Socialists in Cuba and the Soviet Union claimed that their citizens/slaves must sacrifice themselves to “the people”. That’s simply the same vicious socialist-collectivist notion with a different name. Both socialists and fascists believe government should either own or totally control the economic activity and political freedom of all its citizens, in effect making them slaves of the state.
Socialism and fascism are simply two sides of the same vicious coin, brothers under the skin. They espouse the same anti-human philosophy that has been responsible for murdering over 100 million people in the 20th century (by Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Castro, ad nauseum). Yet fuzzy Socialists still cling to their woolly beliefs in the “goodness” of Socialism, vs. the “evil” of the free-market that has brought them a standard of living and health care they couldn’t even dream of in the socialist or socialist-fascist paradises in Cuba or North Korea today.
Fuzzy socialists like to see themselves as lovers of humanity. They “care” about people. Gee, if that’s the case, why would they embrace a philosophy responsible for the murder and torture of over 100 million people in the 20th century, and which continues to murder, torture, and starve to death tens of millions of people in Cuba, soon Venezuala, China, and dozens of other socialist-fascist “paradises” in Africa, Burma, etc., etc.?
Fuzzy socialists claim they want to “help” others, but with WHOSE money (not theirs!)? It’s so easy to be “noble” with other people’s money. It’s so easy to “help” others by robbing millions of Americans of their hard-earned money with taxes, to then “redistirbute” (Obama’s marxist term) this stolen money to other fuzzy little looter-socialists who keep voting the Obama’s of this world into office.
If fuzzy socialists wants to truly help “others”, why don’t they donate 95% of THEIR personal income, and “redistribute” THEIR money to the poor starving masses of Africa, Cuba, and other socialist or socialist/fascist countries around the world? After all, I’m sure fuzzy socialists make far more money than these poor people forced to live under a socialist-fascist “paradise.”

THE “FAIR SHARE” CANNIBALS
The idea of forcing someone to pay his “fair share” of taxes through progressive income taxes applies only to a society of cannibals. It applies to a society where the majority has the right to devour those people who earn more than others. Paying your “fair share” in taxes implies that all of us have a responsibility to support the rapacious Welfare/Entitlement State, but some of us have more responsibility than others. It implies that the more money you earn, the larger your “fair share” should be, simply because you have more to give.
In other words, the “fair share” principal embedded in our progressive income-tax code brings to America, the “land of the free,” Karl Marx’s dictum from his Communist Manifesto, “from each according to his ability, to each according to his need.”
This dictum is the philosophy of socialist looters who are consumed by envy. This policy simply justifies stealing from those people who earn more than others. And since there’s always someone richer or poorer than you, the progressive income tax leads to universal looting, on a massive scale. Through the progressive income-tax system, everyone steals from the next victim above him on the economic ladder. Paying your “fair share” of taxes appeals to looters or parasites who have no idea how wealth is created or why it’s wrong to steal.
To see what fair share really means, imagine the following. You have $10,000 saved in your local bank. You worked for ten years to save this money. The bank then gets a new “progressive” manager. The manager finds that most of the bank’s customers have less than $500 in deposits, which he thinks is grossly unfair. So he makes new rules for the bank. He sends you a letter telling you that he is going to “redistribute” your $10,000 to all his poorer depositors so that everyone has their “fair share.”
Do you think the bank manager should be arrested or sent to the loony bin? What if the government passes a law that lets him get away with this theft? You know that the bank manager has no right to “redistribute” your money. Does the government? Yet progressive income taxes do exactly the same thing the bank manager did.
In 2005, if you earned $80,000, you now pay a 28 percent income-tax rate, or $22,400 in Federal income taxes. A person who earns $28,000 a year now pays a 15 percent income-tax rate, or $4200 in Federal income taxes. If you pay $22,400 in income taxes, do you get five times more in services from the Federal government than the person who paid only $4200 in taxes? No you do not — you get the same “services.” In effect, those who earn higher incomes are looted far more than low-income earners to pay for Welfare/Entitlement programs that are now devouring our country. By what right?
What is the excuse that liberals make to justify this legalized looting of people who earn more than others? Simply this, that low-income earners need more money for all the goods and services they are “entitled” to. Since higher-income earners have more money, they claim, these higher-income earners have a moral “duty” to hand over their “excess” money to the “less fortunate.” In other words, they say “you have the money, we want it, so we’ll take it from you, and we’ll use the progressive income tax to do this. In effect, the federal government becomes a fence for stolen property.
Well, any mugger does the same thing when he puts a gun to your head and says, “your money or your life.” The mugger sees that you have money, he wants it, so he has decided to take your money at the point of a gun. Our government income-tax collectors are simply legalized muggers who loot our money through the progressive income tax.
In a free society, the taxes a person pays should depend on the services he gets from government, his agent. We should only pay for services that we personally use or benefit from. We could devise a system where each of us paid taxes for government services we bought – a voluntary trade between a citizen and his agent. But this system would be possible only if America had a small, limited government.
This goal is entirely possible. In 1914, the entire federal government’s budget was only $725 million. The 2005 fiscal-year budget was over $2 trillion, a 2000-percent increase from 1914. Why the incredible difference? The income-tax revolutionized the role of government from limited agent to safety-net builder. It gave government the income-raising tool it needed to create our devouring Welfare/Entitlement State.
We could have a contractual tax system if we reduced government to its size in 1914. A contractual system would be easy then, because the budget would be so small. Imagine that the annual federal budget is $750 million because we phased out regulations and entitlement programs. To be more realistic, let’s increase the budget to $75 billion (one hundred times the amount in 1914) to account for inflation, defense costs, and the general increase in population.
The United States today has a population of about 250 million people. If we had a simple flat tax calculated by dividing the total budget of $75 billion by the population of 250 million, the tax per person would be $300 a year. Do you think you could afford $300 for taxes? This figure also excludes money the federal government collects from other taxes, such as excise, tariffs, and user fees, which were its primary taxes before 1913. These extra taxes would further reduce the income taxes needed and give government more funds to work with.
Most of us would be so happy about our low tax bill that we wouldn’t want to bother with a complicated contractual tax system. We would be happy to pay the $300 and be done with it. Except for this small tax, you could keep everything you earned. Add up all the taxes you now pay and then subtract $300. Everything else would be yours.
But low taxes are possible only if we totally reject the philosophy behind the Welfare/Entitlement State. We pay heavy taxes only because we have thousands of regulations and entitlement programs and millions of government bureaucrats. The Welfare/Entitlement State and out-of-control government can be swept away only when we reject the idea that helping others is a moral and political duty instead of a personal choice.
Until then, the Welfare/Entitlement State forces us to help others at the point of a legislative gun. Our paychecks and savings accounts are no longer private property to be scrupulously protected and used for our own benefit. Instead, liberals assume that your salary, profits, and property are collectively owned. They assume that your income is a national resource they can give away to anyone who “needs” it. They assume that the only person who has no right to your money is you, the person who earned it.
Are they right? Should you let them get away with that? Does your hard-earned money belong to you, or to any looting moocher who wants to steal it from you? The next time you go into a voting booth, ask yourself these questions. Every liberal, most Democrats, and too many Republicans believe in the welfare-state philosophy. Vote only for those who don’t believe this.
